Mosquitos Control

Do you know that Mosquitos have been identified as the “WORLD’s DEADLIEST ANIMAL”? The small, long-legged insect bites, causes irritating itch and spreading deadly diseases. Mosquitos are responsible for the deadly dengue fever in Malaysia. Besides, it spreads malaria, Zika, chikungunya, lymphatic filariasis and more.

Dengue Fever

Malaysia has been struggling with dengue fever. Dengue is caused by the dengue virus carried by Aedes species (Ae. aegypti or Ae. albopictus) mosquitos. When a patient is down with dengue fever, it can pass the virus to another aedes mosquito and carry the disease to another healthy patient. Up to October 2023 alone, Malaysia reported a surge of 100% dengue cases, from 96,443 to 48,109 cases.

Chikungunya Fever

Chikungunya is a particular concern for pregnant women because, in rare cases, they transmit the virus to their baby around the time of birth. Chikungunya infection in pregnancy is associated with increased pregnancy morbidity and fetal mortality. Newborn babies infected with chikungunya are at higher risk for a severe case of the disease.

Mosquitos Control – Fogging and its Efficacy?

Fogging with chemical (insecticides) have been said to be less effective due to mutation in mosquitos to become more resilient, adaptive and virulent. Therefore, at Malaysian Pest Control (MPC) – we stress on:

• Using the correct dilution of chemical. Reducing chemical dilution to save cost is not unheard off, but it can increase the degree of chemical resistance in mosquitos. At MPC, we adhere strictly to the correct use of chemical for maximum efficacy.
• Using new variant of chemical and ranges of chemical – using different types of insecticide is an effective strategy of killing off mosquitos. A mosquito might have resistance to a type of insecticide but as we use insecticide with composite chemicals, this effectively kill them.

Larviciding

Mosquito fogging has always been a short-term measure which targets only adult mosquitoes. Fogging can be a good measure when you have an event where you are expecting alot of guests. However, a more effective mosquitos control would include destroying their habitat – mosquitos lay eggs in water.

Since fogging does not get rid of the larvae, nor does it get rid of mosquito breeding sites – we should include larviciding as well.

At MPC, we use environmental and very safe approach in larvaciding, by introducing “Bacillus Thuringiensis Bacteria” as a larvicide to kill larvae before they can grow into adult mosquitos. This approach is safe to people, honeybees, animals and environment.
